Therefore, since this is the case, it follows to consider the principle spoken proverbially here, “The Lord created me as the beginning of his ways for his work” (Proverbs 8:22). For God, our master, truly created when he fashioned what did not exist. For “He created as the beginning of his ways” (Proverbs 8:22) not the flesh which existed, which the Logos assumed, but the nonexistent [flesh].
