Incipit Meminimus et tenemus et habemus
Modern Text C. Turner, Ecclesiae Occidentalis Monumenta Iuris Antiquissima, 1.2.644
Notes This letter accompanied the creed of the Serdican council, which was probably also composed by Hosius and Protogenes. It is an apology to assure Julius that the intention of the formula was not to replace that of Nicaea, but to provide a more thorough explanation. See J.N.D. Kelly, Early Christian Creeds3 (New York: Longman Inc., 1972), 277-9 and Victor De Clercq, Hosius of Cordova: A Contribution to the History of the Constantinian Period (Washington, D.C.: The Catholic University of America Press, 1954), 362-76.
