Klostermann 52
Rettb. 47
Ancient source used Eusebius, Against Marcellus 2.2. On Ecclesiastical Theology 2.11.
Modern edition M. Vinzent, Markell von Ankyra: Die Fragmente (Leiden, 1997).

In saying, “In the beginning was the Word” (Jn 1:1), he shows that the Word is in the Father with respect to power, for God “though whom all things exist” (1 Cor 8:6) is the beginning of all things which exist. In saying, “And the Word was with God” (Jn 1:1), he shows that the Word is with God with respect to activity, for “all things exist through him, and without him not one thing exists” (Jn 1:3). In saying, “The Word was God” (Jn 1:1), he shows us not to divide the deity, since both the Word is in him and he is in the Word, for he says, “The Father is in me and I am in the Father” (Jn 10:38).
