Fremantle, p. 47. Pierre Nautin argued convincingly that this letter was not written
before Damasus' death in late 384, but that both this letter and the
letter is is supposedly written in reply to, letter 35, were written by
Jerome sometime later (P. Nautin, 'Le premier echange epistolaire entre
Jerome et Damase: lettres reelles ou fictives?' FZThPh 30 [1983],
pp. 331 334). |
