So what will he say to these things? I do not think he has anything to say about this. For I do not think he would clearly and without covering things up confess to others what he hides in his own thoughts, as can be clearly learned from what he has written. He says, “For one is the Father, who begot from himself the only-begotten Word, the firstborn of all creation. Only begot Only. Complete begot Complete. King begot King. Lord begot Lord. God begot God. The unchangeable image of his essence and will and glory and power.” These words clearly convict his evil teaching about the deity. For how can “the begotten Lord and God,” as he said before, be “the image of God”? For the image of God and God are two different things. So if he is an image, he is neither Lord nor God, but the image of Lord and God. But if he actually is Lord and God, the Lord and God can no longer be the image of Lord and God.
